Duplex Interiors

House in Mumbai, Completed in May 2025

- Red Architects

This 9,000 sq.ft. duplex residence in Mumbai was envisioned as a showcase of refined materials and bespoke design. The client sought an elevated aesthetic with no compromises, resulting in a home that seamlessly blends luxury and functionality. The interiors feature a rich material palette, exposed concrete wall panels, premium Italian marble, quartz surfaces, and custom-designed terrazzo flooring. A dedicated home theatre is acoustically treated with soundproof foam cladding and layered carpeting, ensuring both performance and comfort. Every detail has been curated to reflect a commitment to craftsmanship, materiality, and timeless design.

The grand-mothers walkin closet and bathroom boasts a custom made terrazzo cladding in the shower cubicle and a dresser island custom designed and made in italian marble.

The lounge room on the top floor opens up to the terrace bar. The sliding partition in between is made of the dehydrated leaves and flowers sandwiched in between glass, thus creating an interesting play of light and reflection.

The master bathroom flooring uses 8 different type of locally sourced indian marbles cut and placed in an interesting geometrical pattern. While the pattern repeats over the flooring, the veins of the marbles don't. This creates a symmetrical yet an asymmetrical design.

The basin of the bathroom having a his and her side is made in a single level without any cutouts to make the basin look almost invisible but yet functional.

The bar room powder bath is a monolothic design made by casting concrete on site as per the design. The concrete was then painted in a stark color to go with the ambience of the bar.

Inspired by scuplture artist "David Umemoto" this powder bath uses architectural elements like arch, vaults and combinations of them to create a unique composition

Another powder baths in the top floor of the house uses a monochromatic slim tile combination on the entirety of the wall in contrast to the bold colored basin pedestal

The powder bath attached to the terrace comprises of the 3 layered stone cladding with a circular mirror in between in order to mimic a sunrise amongst the hill.
